WhatsApp’s New Year data grab

January 8, 2021

WhatsApp has just updated its terms of service and will start forcing users outside the UK & Europe to share a whole load of personal information with its parent company Facebook. This includes a user’s location, contact info and contacts, as well as the content of their messages, purchases and  financial information.

This shameless data grab by Facebook makes their claim that WhatsApp is a ‘privacy-focused’ service laughable. Users who really care about their privacy are likely to move to considerably more private and secure alternatives such as Signal and Telegram. We don’t blame them; this is your data and it deserves to remain in your possession.
