Singapore has confirmed that its police can access the country’s COVID-19 contact tracing data if they wish. Currently, around 78% of the population have downloaded the TraceTogether app and the government has announced that use of the app or physical token would be mandatory for entry into public venues in early 2021.

The country has responded to the pandemic far better than many countries and their use of technology has played a key role in this. However, this latest development seems unnecessary at best and evidence of a creeping state panopticon at worst.
